In my work, someone sent me a copy of his article with regards to Mediterranean way of eating and I found out some key points why people in Mediterranean countries somehow managed to stay fit and live longer than those people living in the West.

Here are some of diet tips:
1. High consumption of good fats (whole grains, nuts)
2. Eggs 3-4 times a week
3. High consumption of olive oil
4. 1-2 glasses of wine
5. Fish (moderate red meat intake)

Based on the list above, I guess, the only difference from my diet is the olive oil and wine consumption. We have wine only in special occasion and use olive oil in salads.

I can see how fish would be better for you than red meat. I myself try to avoid beef and use poultry instead. I didn't know eggs would be good in such a high volume. I thought it was high in cholesterol and should be consumed in moderation. This doesn't seem like a bad diet to follow though.

What about fruits and vegetables? It seems that this diet lack fiber. I love my fruits and vegetables and I consume very little red meat. I prefer seafood and I don't even eat poultry that often but I do eat quite a lot of eggs.

Thanks for reminding, UN. Of course, high consumption of fruits and vegetables are important in Mediterranean diet. I just overlooked the list. Apologize.

I think this is a really good way to eat. Including the fruits and vegetables, too, of course! I try to include healthy fats in my diet and we eat eggs almost every day. It is a great protein source.

I was surprised to see the absence of fruits and vegetables in your list because I love to eat fruits and vegetables and I thought getting enough fiber is a healthy way to eat and to maintain one's weight.
