When I made the decision to get Out-Of-Course (OOC) from Specialist Cadet School (SCS), chao geng was not a key factor. Loss of privacy, public scrutiny on myself and my loss of personal time were. That fact that I would definitely get posted to Advanced Section Leader Course after the initial 2 months of Basic Section Leader Course was an important consideration. I had solid ground to believe that my family would not suffer a drastic change since the Specialist Cadet Trainee's monthly allowance is merely $600. If the balance is tilted further and the cadet pay is increased by 51% (T.T?), it will make it harder for new trainees at SCS to consider getting OOC in future.

SINGAPORE - It had been one of the topics tackled in the keenly-contested Presidential Election last August, with several candidates acknowledging that the S$3.17 million annual salary of the President was too high.

Yesterday, the committee tasked to review political salaries recommended a salary of S$1.54 million for the Head of State, or a hefty cut of 51 per cent.
