SINGAPORE: A record S$600,000 was raised for the Singapore Cancer Society in a charity run on Sunday. The third annual "Race Against Cancer" saw some 7,500 participants engaging in competitive as well as fun runs. Flagging them off was Acting Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Major-General Chan Chun Sing. He participated in the event with beneficiaries, including 11-year-old Jagdish Singh, who suffers from muscular dystrophy. Jagdish, whose mother died of cancer last year, is one of 350 beneficiaries of the Help the Youth and Children programme. It aims to mitigate the impact of cancer in their lives.
