SMRT: Increased frequency of train trips means higher noise level

In the past three years, SMRT has increased the frequency of its train trips to reduce passenger congestion.

SMRT added 1,600 train trips since 2008. But this has resulted in a higher level of noise, with SMRT receiving complaints from residents in Jurong East and Eunos.

For example, the noise level at Bishan MRT station is around 80 to 85 decibels. This is higher than the National Environment Agency's (NEA) stipulation of 67 decibels.

SMRT said the noise level is partly due to wear and tear of the train wheels and track.

But with the increased trip frequency, the company faces challenges in scheduling maintenance.

Singaporeans do nothing but whine as always lol. Not like the noise level really affects them that much when they're using their phones and music players half the time they're traveling.

The noise level affects the residents around the area

A friend of mine stays next to an MRT station - whenever a train chugs pass, the noise is terrible. Terrible enough to voice out the tv sounds. The noise differs between new and older trains. Newer trains have better "noise reduction" in built, eg better wheels.

I heard that SMRT is planning to install noise absorbent devices next or on the train tracks near residential areas.

As if there's a huge difference. Those living near tracks should have already anticipated or been used to it. Excuses. Don't bring in so many people and raise fares if you can't do A SINGLE THING RIGHT. Train frequency epic fail; noise level epic fail; quality and standard of rides epic fall. I mean, they haven't done anything right have they?

Before sanctimonious government supporters hurl unthinking criticisms my way, I shall first explain that I do think smrt is an adequate transport system. They are considered efficient - well yes. What I abhor is the policies and the cruel money-sucking higher-ups and their oppression of the public. All clear-headed people should understand me. Look at how the ostensibly benevolent government - hell no, I mean sovereigns(or rulers) - broke their promises(okay, as an reasonably intelligent human I already seen those as what they truly were - lies) yet again after the election. Ok I'm damn busy I don't wanna rant but you get my point.
