The Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) has inked a record sponsorship deal with home-grown menswear apparel manufacturer Crocodile International Pte Ltd.

Worth S$1 million over 10 years, the deal is aimed at helping the STTA develop young talent in Singapore, and will include the staging of the inaugural Crocodile Challenge Cup.

To be held from 10-13 November this year, only primary school students of Singaporean citizenship are eligible.

Primary schools can nominate their best players for the tournament, which will feature six events, including the boys' and girls' under-12 singles.

A total of S$18,000 in prize money will also be offered at the Crocodile Challenge Cup.

Speaking at the signing ceremony at Crocodile House on Wednesday, STTA president Lee Bee Wah said it is part of their blueprint to identify and develop young table tennis talents in Singapore.

She said: "We found that more tournaments for primary school students are needed, because that is the age we can identify talent and arouse their interest. We want to promote the sport to all levels, both competitive and recreational."
