The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) recently announced plans to issue about 8,000 sets of iPads to every recruit in the Basic Military Training Centre, and those in other institutes such as the Officer Cadet School and Specialist Cadet School, to sharpen their fighting skills.
Such high-tech equipment enhances the SAF's military capabilities, but are they turning soldiers into softies who can only fight with the aid of technology?
Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen responded to the question in a SAF Day media interview. He also talked about challenges facing the SAF in the next 20 years.
