android and iOS in the present is so much similar to windows and OS X, 25 years ago. One is an open system while the other is closed up.

who will eventually succeed and be the market leader in the mobile industry this time round? ;)

it's really hard to say. but open source fuels innovation and provides consumer with an option. Windows and Apple wont be too happy to see an operating system running on a smart phone though. :)

being the market leader doesn't equate to producing the most awesome products in the market ;)

Totally agree. without open source software . we won't have Yahoo, Google , Facebook ...all developed with open source software.
