CHICAGO (AP) - Amber Miller says she felt contractions minutes after crossing the Chicago Marathon finish line.

A few hours after completing the 42km race on Sunday, the suburban Chicago woman gave birth to her daughter, June.

The 27-year-old is an experienced marathoner who found out she was pregnant after signing up for the race months ago. She figured she'd play it by ear on whether or not she'd run. Mrs Miller was nearly 39 weeks pregnant by Sunday. She got clearance from her doctor to half run and half walk the race.

She finished in 6 hours and 25 minutes, much slower than her previous seven marathons. Mrs Miller spoke to The Associated Press from the hospital and says she received encouraging cheers during the race and never felt bad, except for some feet blisters.

It was not Miller's first marathon while pregnant.

In May, the Westchester woman ran the Wisconsin Marathon in 4:23:07 while 17 weeks pregnant with her daughter. In 2009, she ran the Indianapolis Marathon in 4:30:27 while she was 18 weeks pregnant with her son Caleb, who's one.

It must have been really, really difficult, with pains and all that extra weight. I salute her determination. It's amazing what a strong mind can do.

actually, i think she is being damn selfish to her child. what if the child gets hurt during the whole process? is she risking her child's safety just so she can prove herself?
